| The beacon system in Kent in 1585 (3 years before the Spanish Armada) by William Lambarde, commissioned by Lord Cobham and later published in "The Perambulation of Kent". It was meant to draw to the public's attention the use of the the nations military communications system, and because of it the system was made more efficient before the Armada arrived. He was, however, criticized for revealing state secrets. |
